Inside every phone, six layers.
Most faults live in one of them. Knowing which one is the repair.
- Cover glassCracked, chipped or shattered. The part that takes the fall.
- DisplayLines, flicker, black patches, or touch that stops responding.
- Frame and buttonsBent corners, power and volume buttons that stick.
- BatteryEmpty by lunchtime, shuts down early, or starts to swell.
- Board and charging portWon’t charge, loose cable, signs of water inside.
- Back glass and cameraA cracked back or broken camera lens glass.
What is your phone doing?
Four of the most common reasons people bring a phone in, and what to do first.
-
01The screen is cracked.
Even a small crack tends to spread, and broken glass can cut a finger or let dust and moisture in. Cracked glass, a damaged display and touch problems are everyday screen repairs.
Back up your photos if the phone still works.
-
02It doesn’t last the day.
Batteries wear out with every charge. When a phone dies early, switches off at a few percent or gets warm, the battery is usually the first suspect.
If the back or screen starts to lift, stop charging it.
-
03It won’t charge.
A cable that only works at an angle, or not at all. Sometimes it is lint packed into the port, sometimes the port itself. Either way it is worth a look before buying a new charger.
Try a second cable first. If that fails too, bring it in.
-
04It went in the water.
Pool, sea, sink. Water damage often shows up days later, so a phone that seems fine can still need a diagnosis on the inside.
Switch it off, don’t charge it, and skip the rice.
